How status is decided
3DP Firmware answers one question: should you install this printer firmware? The answer is a badge plus the reason for it. The reason is either an editor note written into the data file, a count of reports submitted on this site, or an honest “we do not know yet.”
The four badges
- Safe. At least 5 owner reports, and fewer than 15% of them say Problem. This means “owners on this site are mostly fine,” not “Bambu certified it.”
- Mixed. At least 5 reports and the Problem share is 15% or more, but under 40%. Also used when an editor note says there is a real caveat and there are not enough votes yet.
- Hold off. At least 5 reports and the Problem share is 40% or more. Also used when an editor note sets a Hold off floor. Votes cannot lift a Hold off floor; only an edit to the data file can.
- Needs reports. Fewer than 5 reports and no editor floor. The official summary is still on the page. The badge is refusing to pretend that silence is approval.
What an editor note is
Some versions ship with a documented catch: a wiped setting, a fit change, a forum thread where several people describe the same first-layer failure. A person maintaining data/firmware.json can set advisory to mixed or hold and must write the reason. That note is labeled on the version page. It is not counted as owner reports, and forum posts we link are not copied in as votes.
There is no “safe” value for that field. Safe only appears after enough people use the “I updated” form. One angry report cannot flip a version to Hold off by itself, and four happy reports cannot flip it to Safe.
Where the facts come from
Version numbers, dates, and issue summaries were paraphrased from Bambu Lab's public wiki on 2 Nov 2026. Each version page links the page we read. We do not paste the wiki. If a sentence is easy to pin to the wrong version on a long changelog, the seed data says so instead of guessing.
Models in v1: P1S (P1-series firmware), X1C (X1/X1C history), A1, A1 mini, P2S, and H2D. The H2D page skips laser and cutter bullets on purpose.
What this site will not do
- Invent testimonials, download counts, or a crowd that is not in the report file.
- Call a version Safe because the changelog sounds pleasant.
- Hide a Problem report because a sponsor asked.
- Pretend to be Bambu Lab, Bambu Handy, or Bambu Studio.
Your report, your email, and feedback
“I updated” stores the printer, version, Fine or Problem, your note, and the time. It does not ask for an account. A newsletter signup stores the email and, on a model page, which printer you were reading. That address stays in this site's private store and is synced to the 3DP Firmware status notes list. A new signup also gets one welcome email confirming the address was added. The feedback form stores the category, the message, and an email only if you type one. A sponsor note stores the name, email, and message you send. Reports, feedback, and sponsor notes stay in the same private store so the person running 3DP Firmware can keep the tracker honest.
The welcome email includes a link that takes the address off this site's list and off Resend. Later status notes will too. Until those notes go out, or instead, use Feedback and ask to be removed. We will take the address off the private store and the Resend list. We do not sell these addresses or notes.
3DP Firmware is an independent project. It is not affiliated with Bambu Lab, Bambu Handy, or Bambu Studio, and it cannot update your printer.
A report is one person's opinion of an update, not a lab result and not an official Bambu statement. Please don't send spam, harassment, or anything that isn't about the firmware. We may delete junk.
